 Profile

An opening medium-pace bowler, Clare Taylor was one of the most successful bowlers in the women's game. She became the first England player to take 100 international wickets in 2002 andwas the second highest wicket-taker overall at the World Cup in 2000. She played 16 Tests and 105 ODIs, was made a Member of the British Empire in 2000 for services to cricket and was also one of the England side that won the 1993 World Cup at Lord's. She was also a talented footballer too, having represented Liverpool Ladies as well as playing in the football World Cup. Taylor spent her winters in New Zealand with Otago and her summers with Yorkshire, winning the County Championship 11 times in 12 seasons with them, and in between worked for the Royal Mail. She announced her retirement at the end of the 2005 season, but retained her strong links with the game as a coach - helping out at the women's academy in Durham, and then moving on to help New Zealand women, when she moved to Otago.
